There are four vacant seats on the Board; two for Student Volunteer Members of CKCU, one for a Multicultural Community Volunteer of CKCU, and one General Appointment.

O’Shea Adagio	Carleton University Representative Host of Vintage Love – Saturdays 10 pm – midnight I’ve been involved with CKCU for about 20 years. CKCU provides an avenue to listen to, speak to, entertain, and care for our community… without the voices of money and power dictating what we say.  As the “sense” of community expands (it’s not your physical neighborhood anymore), it becomes easier to take for granted the people and the community right here. Although we broadcast to the world, my heart and soul is here — for my people and my community… at home.    We could not do any of this without our staff, volunteers and YOU, our community of listeners and fans. And this is why I say: there is no CKC without U!  Thank you to the CKCU family, those who are here now and those who have come and gone before us. CKCU is not possible without us all.
Doug Bird	Volunteer Member of CKCU (Student or Non-Student) (2024) Host of I Doug That, Thursdays 1-2 pm It began many years ago when I was much younger. Of course, there was no CKCU FM then so I had to be content with sitting quietly in my high chair and making a mess with my food. I have learned many things on my journey to senility. Feeding myself and walking being just two of those things. Now I am a DJ on the best station there is. It’s been I guess about 14 years.  The music shows on CKCU counter those terrible commercial FM stations and give credence and a shout out to those great bands who never seemed to make it big. Every week I dust off some old CDs (more MP3s these days) and try and put together a list which people might enjoy.  The station means more to me than words can express and it has been and is an honour to be associated with such a wonderful group of people.
David Dalle	Non-Student Volunteer Member of CKCU (2024) Host of the David Dalle show – Thursdays 2-4 pm I have been involved with CKCU for 30 years and have been doing my show for 29 years. Community radio is vital because it is the only radio which truly allows for freedom and experimentation, while being part of a collaborative community.
Shirley Gagnon	Multicultural Community Volunteer Member of CKCU Interim CKCU Board Chair Host of Shirley’s Corner – Wednesdays 3:30-4:30 pm
Samuel Kilgour	Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) Representative The unique knowledge generated by the shows on CKCU makes CKCU an integral part of the campus experience and provides common experiences, a key building block of community. I hope to bring knowledge gained from my Master’s Degree in Student Affairs at Michigan State to CKCU to help build the relationship between CKCU, CUSA, and students. With local initiatives and news increasingly being closed or bought by large conglomerates, community radio is essential to keep a distinct local identity regardless of how else an individual makes meaning of the world.
Steve Kirkland	Non-Student Volunteer Member of CKCU (2024) Host of Volume, Contrast, Brilliance – Saturdays 6-8 pm I’ve been involved with CKCU since 1983 as a host, volunteer, and general programmer. CKCU-FM is an Ottawa institution that is ingrained in the psyche of a dedicated community of discerning and appreciative listeners who value the diversity of unique programs it airs and the unique personalities that present them.     Community radio has traditionally eschewed broader mainstream values and clichés to cater to the interests and needs of individuals and select groups seeking a “voice” that speaks to them. Nowadays, with way too many available “radio” options, it is encouraging that stations like CKCU-FM are still valued as a source of entertainment, information and community engagement.   Listening to CKCU-FM — especially old-school, “live” on the FM band — remains a genuinely human experience well worth preserving.
Nathanael Newton	Non-Student Volunteer Member of CKCU (2025) CKCU Board Secretary I’ve been the host of Monday Special Blend since July 2024. For the last 17 years I’ve been a free-lance journalist and vlogger on YouTube covering a wide variety of subjects. With a background in IT administration and customer service, I intend to support CKCU in any way that I can, from on-location live broadcasts, web & backend development and much more. The connections I’ve made and interactions I’ve had with CKCU community and beyond have been the highlight of my life over the last few years and I’m so thankful for the opportunities provided through the station.
Manmohan Panesar	Volunteer Member of CKCU with links to other communities (2024) A CKCU host of This Island Earth – Sundays 1-4 pm I am a former CKCU board chair (2002-2004), former treasurer (2001), and former board member (1999-2005), along with 25 years of CKCU volunteer experience. Besides my CKCU activities, I am an elementary school teacher (currently Grade 6 French Immersion), activist, husband and father who is interested in politics, music, education, and birding.   CKCU is special in providing a voice for those on the margins of music, cultural communities and politics and is more important than ever in showcasing the diversity of the human experience in all its richness and depth.
Corrie Rabbe	General Appointment (2023) Host of Vanishing Point – every second Thursday 10-11 pm I’ve been listening to CKCU since moving to Ottawa from England in the late 90s and started hosting my own show about 5 years ago. I started tuning into CKCU because it plays music I enjoy. But over the years I’ve grown to appreciate how CKCU’s array of cultural programming acts as an engagement point for those who otherwise wouldn’t have a voice. I like how the niche music programs stretch my ears in new directions and that the spoken word programs offer perspectives that I don’t hear anywhere else. CKCU connects communities, educates, and takes us beyond the mainstream in a world of increasing insularity and homogenization.
Gray Simms	Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) Representative Community radio helps bring local artists and talent to a local audience, while keeping people abreast of what is going on in their communities. With the loss of many local news sources and artistic outlets, community radio continues to provide a platform for local news and entertainment.   I hope to bring my experience on The Carleton Academic Student Government, the CUSA Board, and from my recent bachelor’s degree in policy management at Carleton to CKCU.
Bruce White	General Appointment (Board Treasurer) (2023) Depending on how you count, I have been involved with CKCU for either 47 years (with a 43½-year break), or just 3½ years. I was a volunteer ad writer & producer in 1976 and then became the Advertising Production Manager which was eliminated in 1978 when the CRTC ruled against the type of ads CKCU was doing. I pursued a different – but curiously similar – career as programmer of an arts organization in Ottawa and returned to CKCU as a Board member in 2022, after I retired from the glamorous world of indie cinema (the ByTowne Cinema).   CKCU shaped the values and philosophies of my later pursuits and has always been a special place for me as ‘just’ a listener as well as infinitely expanding my musical horizons and keeping me connected to the multiverse of Ottawa communities.   I believe that, with mainstream media constantly moving towards the most common of common denominators, CKCU’s contribution is more important than ever.
Chris White	Volunteer Member of CKCU with links to other communities (2024) Host of Canadian Spaces – Saturdays 10 am – noon I have been involved with CKCU for more than30 years in a variety of roles. Since 1975, CKCU has been enriching the community by supporting hosts to inform and entertain audiences, develop presentation skills, form connections, and share a wide variety of music and ideas. The alarming disappearance of grassroots-level media outlets makes CKCU increasingly important as a way providing access to programming that is authentic, accessible, non-commercial, and directly connected to the community. Communicating with volunteers and supporting their work are critically important board responsibilities. As the heart and soul of CKCU, volunteers create and present all of the programming and connect the organization directly to listeners, donors, community members and social networks.
Anne-Lotta Frank	I joined CKCU when I moved to Canada from Germany in 1999 – and started co-hosting the Tuesday Special Blend in 2000. I stopped programming for quite a while but always stayed connected and CKCU has a special place in my heart. I firmly believe in the importance of the station and its mandate, and I have experienced first hand what CKCU has to offer for the community and its people. It was through CKCU that as a newcomer I connected with Ottawa’s greater community and learned about Canada. I am thrilled to not only be returning to the station as a show host and contributor but as a board member. I am committed and driven to support in this role the station, its amazing staff and its many dedicated volunteers.
