The Programming Assistant helps with receiving, processing, and logging CKCU’s FM content, reporting to the station Program Director.
Position Title: Programming Assistant
Part-time – 10 to 15 Hours per week @ $20/hour
Location: Ottawa, remote and onsite (flexible)
Reports to: CKCU Program Director
General Description: The Programming Assistant helps with receiving, processing, and logging CKCU’s FM content assuming the following tasks and duties:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive audio files from various CKCU show hosts and check them for quality assurance, making tweaks and edits where necessary.
- Transfer files to the station computer remotely using RustDesk.
- Input files into the iMediaTouch library.
- Create logs and schedule files accurately so that programs and other content can play through iMediaTouch’s automation system.
Other daily tasks:
- Troubleshoot errors and maintain the system.
- Communicate with hosts to check if/why no episode was submitted.
- Verify other people’s work/logs.
- Stay informed about changes/idiosyncrasies with the program grid with help from the Program Director/Manager.
- Assist with hybrid shows (live and automated/pre-recorded programming).
- Create and compile highlights from existing content.
- Tighten up and update training tools and other related duties.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Computer, data processing courses, and radio training or equivalent are an asset.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Strong computer knowledge.
- Proficient in the use of the internet, calendars, email, and cloud-based file transfer services.
- Thorough knowledge of at least one audio editing software program.
- Familiarity with RustDesk (or equivalent) and iMediaTouch.
- Familiarity with CKCU and its programming.
Required Gear and Software: Computer or laptop with soundcard and internet access, headphones (optional), sound editing software (e.g., Audition, Audacity), RustDesk (provided by the station), Microsoft 365.
Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications:
- Experience with processing audio and data.
- Experience in campus/community radio.
- Experience working remotely with others.

Availability:
- The bulk of the work takes place in late afternoons and needs to be finalized in the evening/before 10 PM.
